Less severe, but worse than major depressive disorder: symptoms are mild, but are the same over long periods of time, those who suffer from both dysthymic and major depressive disorder have double. 3rd in line for severity but happens for long periods of time experiencing changes. It is possible to have hypomania on its own. Important in order to get the proper treatment: chronic, psychotic. Means that it has been occurring for long periods of time, more than 2 years. Prevent any type of psychosis because it will be more likely to happen if it has happened once already. More common: melancholic of suicide in cultures without faith, catatonic reaction. phototherapy- exposed to a special light to get enough vitamin d, postpartum onset, seasonal pattern, rapid cycling pattern.
