Freud: dreams caused by repressed unconscious desires, ego does not like to feel anxious, we develop strategies to avoid anxiety (ego defensive mechanisms, a psychosomatic disorder is a disease, which involves both mind and body in which our subconscious can cause us to lose some kind of bodily function. Carl jung: liked the idea of id, super ego, and ego, thought dreams weren"t always about unresolved conflicts, freud is too negative, believed dreams are a doorway to personal growth, a road to self discovery, we only remember the dreams we wake up in, even healthy people have dreams therefore no conflict in the mind is needed to have a dream, believed in concepts of archetypes, universal, archaic patterns and images that derive from the collective unconscious and are the psychic counterpart of instinct, collective unconscious, a second psychic system of a collective, universal and impersonal nature which is identical in all individuals.
