Document Summary
All about thinking processes, memory, attention, decision making etc. Based on the idea that our brain is like a physical computer- rough metaphor. Uses information the computer metaphor is deriving the research and produces an output. Cognitive psychology sees the individual as a processor of information, in much the same way that a computer takes in information and follows a program to produce an output. We measure the reaction time from start of the stimulus to start of the response. Used to measure the speed of the cognitive processes. Made of 4 different stages : encoding (hits auditory processing, comparison (to stored processes, decide (response is selected among alternatives, response (yes/no-longest part) We can measure how long it takes for one of the stages by removing it. We first measure how long it takes to do the whole thing with and then without, the stage included. Compare how long for 4 steps versus 3 steps.
