Schema an organized unit of knowledge that the child uses to try to understand a situation. Adaptation the individuals tendency to adjust to environmental demands via assimilation or accommodation; adjusting schemas based on input; 2 ways in which we adapt: Assimilation molding a new experience to fit into an existing schema ex. Accommodation modifying an existing schema to fit the characteristics of a new experience ex. Dog at home but now come across a cat so meows not barks, no petting, etc. Children can assimilate most experiences into existing schema- occasionally accommodating.
