Prosocial & altruistic behaviour: prosocial behaviour- behaviour designed to help or benefit other people, altruistic behavior- intrinsically motivated behaviour that is intended to help others with out expectation of reward or acknowledgement. The development of altruistic behaviours: 10 to 12 months old- cry in response to some else"s distress, but not help, 13 to-14 months -will approach & comfort, 18 months- will offer help. Outline for today: moral reasoning, piaget"s cognitive theory of moral development, kohlberg"s cognitive theory of moral development, moral behavior, self- control & self regulation, prosocial and altruistic behaviours, aggression. Instrumental aggression-a child uses aggression to achieve a specific goal: hostile aggression- unprovoked; apparently its sole goal is to intimidate, harass, or humiliate another, reactive aggression- one child"s behavior leads to another child aggression.
