Disappears between 3-4 months: plantar (toe grasp): absence indicates lower spine deicits. Disappears between 8-12 months: rooing: absence indicates depression. Disappears between 3 and 4 months: stepping: absence indicates depression. Disappears between 3 and 4 months: sucking: may be iniially weakened in babies whose moms medicated during childbirth. Newborn repertoire of relexes which are involuntary responses to external simuli. Many relexes have obvious value in helping newborn survive. Many disappear during 1st year of life. Tests of relexes may be combined with other assessments to gauge health, maturity and capaciies of newborn. Time spent in these 2 states changes over course of development.
