PSY220H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Social Rejection, Extreme Aggression, Electronic Game
Document Summary
Lecture 10: aggression + continuation from lec 9 (june 7th) Idealizations of our romantic rels and partners in order to maintain the rel. Show that not only do we have pos illusions about our partners. Our partners are also more satisfied w/ rel + more committed. Tend to benefit rel when we are dating. But in marital rel --> no pos illusion. What benefits the rel is partner seeing you as you are. When dating and trying to establish more committed rel put best foot forward. When partner sees you as slightly better might be more likely to be in a committed rel. In marriages, shift to have a partner that sees us as we see: the more we idealize our partner: ourselves. The greater our partner"s satisfaction w/ the rel. Factors that were responsible for the initial attraction are no longer present. When investment high --> unlikely to leave. Low investment more likely to leave that rel.
