Provides person doing the assessment some knowledge of the major problems: includes basic information: People can present with a disorder even if they don"t have the disorder called malinger/ malingering: client presents with the symptoms, client is not lying intentionally. Legal system: court mandated usually little motivation by client, court increases motivation in clients by offering client less punishment for participation. Patients may have low motivation if it is the case of parent bringing child to therapy. Assessment of abnormal behavior can be done through: interviews, observation. Most common in children/ good for children: psychological tests.
