We are only aware of what we can actually detect in our environment. Most mammals only have two different cone types. Humans are almost special in mammals for having 3 distinct cone types. Honey bees have three cone types but more sensitivity to colours than we do. Pigeons have 4 cone types have the potential to see billions of colours. Males tend to lack cones compared to women. Women have potential for more than 3 cone types. Super colour perceiver females - has to do with genes and number of cones (more colour distinctions with ^cones) Bats use sonar to track down their main food source: moths. Moths rely mostly on vision, don"t have any sense of hearing. There are special breeds of moths that have developed an ear specifically for detecting sonar ticks from bats.
