PSY290H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Refworks, Central Nervous System, Resting Potential
Document Summary
Not included is any talk of the conduction of an action potential. Rest membrane potential, electric chemical gradient, how ions contribute to the resting potential. The anatomy is the most important thing about the brain. It is the foundation of the function of the brain. Size of outer shell is bigger in bigger animals same with brain size. The bigger the surface area you have the bigger the brain you need. Humans deviate from predicted brain size in comparison to body mass. This reflects the different cognitive elements of the brain that other animals have not got through. Central nervous system = all parts of the brain contained within bone. Peripheral nervous system = part of nervous system not in bones (consists of nerves and bundles of axons) Brains limited to what they can do by brain size. Birthing process effects this (how big of a head can go through the uterus)
