Orderly developmental sequences are found in children"s intention with peers. Category systems have been created to describe individual differences in the nature of relationships children have. Nature of early peer relationships could predict later psychological adjustment. Friendships fulfill a number of important functions which change according to age. Mutual influences exist between children"s family and peer relationships, especially in terms of how parental actions affect the nature and amount of contact with peers. As children get older, we are looking at how little time they are spending with parents, especially by pre-adolescents. When we look at child companionships, they start going to school and daycare, where there is a high % of them playing with other. But at around 7-8 years, they peak and start to decline during the adolescent years. This may be due to the fact that they are able to do things on their own like ride a bike, read a book etc.
