PSY311H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Gender Role, Oedipus Complex, Typical Male
This is based primarily on common interests and attributes. Children want to play with other children wo want to play with the same toys: psychological and behavioral differences between boys and girls get greater during early adolescence. Once they go through puberty /hormonal changes, both genders begin. Gender role orientation differentiating from one another. Gender roles: theoretical explanations: evolution/sociobiology: males and females have different purposes in life and behave accordingly. Their genetic endowment is responsible for their different behaviors just as it is responsible for their different physical characteristics: males and females behave differently with courting, mating and parenting. They are different anatomically but also have different behaviours: women will be equipped with certain behaviors and characteristics that are designed purposefully to raise children. Whereas male roles are to be strong and confident in order to compete with other men to get to available female. Unlikely to be based on simple learning mechanism.
