Document Summary
Sensiivity hypothesis: security of atachment is determined by the degree to which mother was sensiive and responsive in handling infant during early years. Competence hypothesis: individual diferences in security of atachment predict individual diferences later in life: if really a prototypical rel"t, one would expect child would be socially competence down the road if they had a secure atachment. Less if not secure: a lot of research supports this. Findings shows that security at 12 months and 18 months were highly assoc w/ variety of indicators of social competence w/ peers and later on around 10 or 12 years: 1. Raing of social competence of the young ones. Adults were to rate their social competence, independence at such of these kids at 11/12 yo (already had info about their atachment) Those w/ secure tend to hang out w/ peers. These were beter in terms of openness w. one another. Characterised with greater degree of trust and coordinaion b/w kids.
