PSY313H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Free Recall, Mnemonic, Amnesia
Document Summary
Effects of aging in memory depend on area of memory. Metaanalysis provide quantitative summaries from a large amount of data on a certain topic look at all studies to particular topic and do statistical tests to find a general explanation. Affects averaging and needs to be taken into consideration during study: memory can be categorized in several different ways, storehouses. Long term memory: declarative vs. non declarative (procedural memory, implicit vs. explicit, retrospective vs. prospective, processing operations. Retention: age related changes, sensory memory holds up well temporarily retains information little effect from aging. Working memory declines appreciably retention of current event for a brief period. Can measure capacity of short term memory by asking subject to repeat a list of numbers just read to them and seeing how many they can remember. Implicit ltm much less affected than explicit ltm.
