Document Summary

Psy321 lecture 8 march 21, 2014. Course evaluations open from march 26-april 9. Lecture outline: gender differences across cultures, culture, sex & sexuality, division of labour, culture & gender roles, culture & gender identity. Gender and culture are very intertwined concepts. A lot of research findings in the past came from studies that used male participants and conducted by male researchers so we can"t generalize those findings. Slowly, the number of females increased in research and now its mostly half females and half males. Now it is possible to generalize the findings to everyone because both males and females are used. Definitions: sex, biological dimension of being male or female. The physical characteristics and differences between men and women: sex roles. Culture & gender differences: relatedness: some researchers concluded that the features of interdependent identities seem more characteristic of women. Men seem to be more independent and women seemed to be more interdependent.
