Document Summary

Me-self attitudes: self as object or known, the contents of who you are what is known about you, the contents of you is what makes up the me-self ex: personality traits, values, morals, Ex: the self was represented as a book. The i-self is you reading the book (making sense of the words on the pages). The me-self is the actual content of the pages. The me-self develops outside of the i-self: in order to possess habits, morals, beliefs, personality traits, you need to be able to subjectively experience the world first. This means that the i-self needs to be in place first. We can divide the i-self into 4 main components. Because it is hard to empirically study it, he wanted philosophers to take on the i-self. James went a step further suggesting that these 3 aspects are hierarchically organized in importance.
