PSY346H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex, Premotor Cortex, Occipital Lobe
Document Summary
Neurotransmitter pathways that connect areas of the brain together. Where most of the action happens in psychiatry is the forebrain. Early anatomists who had no idea what parts in the did what, named the parts of the brain based on the localization of our bones. Underneath the suture lines is the brain. We use lines we can visibly see to divide the lobes --- use of sulci (vs gyri) the central sulci is almost over exaggerated --- the central fissure//lateral fissure (most superior part of the the frontal lobe) ^^^^^^^ important to understand the main sulci and fissures. Frontal lobe and has 5 five different cortex. Auditory and visual info is imputed and is important for functioning. W/in the frontal lobes we can see several areas of function. Dorsolateral prefrontal cortex lateral frontopolar cortex ventrolateral prefrontal cortex these three are the cognitive regulators of behaviour from the environmental context (sometimes automatic --- like slowing down w/ traffic)
