Document Summary

The big picture: induction, early and late phase biochemical processes. Biochemical mechanisms for short term information storage at the cellular level. Induction, maintenance, and expression of ltp: the induction, early and late phases are argued to be parallel processes of long term induction of ltp but independent on another. Induction of ltp is modulated via several mechanisms all altering calcium concentrations intracellularly. 1: early ltp/ltd does not require protein synthesis, protein synthesis inhibitors do not alter early ltp, if you use protein inhibitors like peptides early ltp (e-ltp)doesn"t get affected. Mechanisms of e-ltp: persistently activated kinases, the kinases that get activated by the large calcium spike, once they get activated by the calcium they are still activate up to a day but usually up to one hour, eg. Local protein synthesis: different from central level protein synthesis, protein synthesis can occur specifically in particular synapses.
