PSY398H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Cingulate Cortex, Olfactory Bulb, Optic Chiasm
Document Summary
Hindbrain medulla: autonomic functions; breathing, heart rate, vomiting, blood pressure. Controlled by neurons and ganglia within the medulla. Pons- like a train stations: passes nervous system tracks from spinal cord to the thalamus (sensory info )- the thalamus is also a relay system- sends info to cortex or limbic system. Cerebellum: maintain balance, motor function, coordinated and complex movements, snapshot of science. This women checked in and doctors said she doesn"t have cerebellum but all she had was dizziness. Forebrain: basoganglia- motor control and routine behaviour like eye movements, cerebral- storage of ltm, limbic- lots of areas involved. Hypo and pituitary: optic chiasm- runs right over hypo and pituitary. So it is like a landmark infundibulum- very connected and steroid and peptide hormones- involvement and also in circadian rhythm. Hypothalamus: direct autonomic responses because of hormones involved it primarily controls that ans, regulates release of hormones from anterior pituitary gland.
