Collective all sensory information coming in our body. The perception of position of our limbs in space. Balance and awareness of body in space. Usually involves detection of cues from organs and ears. Somatosensory = combination of the cues and feedback and all other cues. Hair receptor follicle in all other areas of skin. Below the epidermis and in the dermal layers of the skin. Perception of touch occurs when dermis/epidermis is stretched, Variety of skin receptors form bases of channels each receptor: e. g. wrap hands around coffee cup: hot, movement (slips) depressed or moved computes a unique perception. Each receptor responds to 3 basic elements: distinction, size of receptive field. Receptor closer to epidermis = small receptive field.
