Document Summary

2 types of myelinating cells: one oligodendrocytes can myelinate several sections. Glial cells support axon function: we have 2 other types of myelinating neurons, astro(cid:272)ytes (cid:272)ontrol the (cid:271)lood flow , astrocytes can have a substantial effect on your neuroactivity, microglia are mobile and clean up debris. Electricity: belief that there was some kind of a fluid to induce change in behaviour. Key to life: the notion of an ele(cid:272)tri(cid:272)al fluid wasn"t a(cid:272)(cid:272)urate, (cid:271)ut he (cid:272)reated a shift in thinking, thought only living things could produce it, he proved his point by making the first battery. Said that he could repeat galvani"s experiment without a living thing. Distributing ions across a membrane: there are 2 forces, diffusion, driven by basic properties. Neurons are surrounded by a plasma membrane: playing off of osmosis and electrostatic forces. Semi-permeable membrane: normally, these are lined with different ion channels. Resting potential: can be anywhere from -40mv to -80mv.
