PSY290H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Gerald Edelman, Peripheral Nervous System, Fourth Ventricle
Document Summary
Looking at the sheep brain: it is only one quarter of our human brain. There are differences between human and sheep brain, however, there are some similarities that we can draw from. Some parts of the sheep brain are exactly same as parts of the human brain. Gerald edelman: indeed, perhaps the most important general observation that can be made about the brain is that its anatomy is the most important thing about it . Anatomy: it determines the function of the brain -> anatomical distinctions determine also the functional distinctions, and that is why the anatomy is so closely tied with the functions. It is spinal cord, brainstem, thalamus, cortex : peripheral nervous system: it is everything that is outside the skull and bone, it is for example cranial nerves, spinal nerves, autonomic nervous system. Peripheral nervous system connects the body to the central nervous system. Anything that is black at the brain it is the blood vessels.
