PSY321H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Anxiety Disorder, Health Promotion, Sex Organ
Document Summary
Despite the notion that physical health is a biological issue, it is still strongly related to many psychological variables and sociocultural phenomena. Human biology and, thus, health varies across populations. Genetic differences between populations sometimes result from the unique genetic make- up of the set of individuals that originally founded the population: there is nothing particular about them that cause them to leave the group. Blood types: the founding population shad different bloodtype makeup. Humans, like all organisms, evolve due to selective pressures in their environments. Different environments have different selection pressures, leading different populations to evolve different traits. Skin colour variation across populations is a salient example. Among human populations that have domesticated cattle and rely heavily on dairy in their diet, there has been selection for genes that increase adult lactose tolerance. Moken subsistence involved fishing underwater where visibility is lower.
