Applying something you don"t like to reduce its prevalence. *note there is significant overlap between things that you should do and things that you must do there are things that you should do, that you are not required by law to do. This breaks the professional bond and creates multiple relationships. If you break that bond, the client may complain or form a significant attachment to the psychologist which is harmful to the client. Note that this example is unethical but not illegal. Apa says you can have sex with a patient only if it has been 5 years since you have provided therapeutic treatment to them. If you break ethics, you can lose your ability to practice psychology, even though you did not break the law.
