Evolutionary changes accumulate to allow for the development of complex organs. Random, small modifications occur due to mutations. Evolution is random and at time doesn"t make sense. Goosebumps: allowed for insulation when humans had fur. Rods and cones are at the back of the eye. Blood vessels are in front of the rods and cones. Positioning of veins only makes sense when on all-fours. Better designed for movement on four limbs. Previously thought of evolution as a process to betterment (not accurate) Not a scale with good" and less good" traits. Evolution =/= endless, perfecting modifications of a trait to become very complex. Gould: bacteria are very successful, very little change/ few modifications in 1 billion years. Much more difficult to remove a gene than to add a gene.
