Document Summary

**watch video again: we often assume that reproduction requires two individuals, note always the case, asexual reproduction: to obtain genetic material from one parent, ex. Mitosis: the duplication of genetic material to create two identical cells, many single celled organisms reproduce this way: some species get by without sex! So why: reasons a species may benefit from sex (genetic effects to animals, and 2 environemtnal differences, theory 1: muller"s rachet: dna breaks down over time. In healthy seasons, all offspring can survive, but in drought or shortage of food: b) deal with changes in the environment. In non-stressful, constant environments, asexual reproduction works well. In stressful, varied environments, we tend to see that asexual reproducers don"t do as well. Parasites are looking to pick that lock and produce a key so that they will gain access. We try to build defences and vary the lock, because the parasites are always behind.
