Music listening: effects of music listening on nonmusical abilities have been examined in two ways, the so-called mozart effect- nonmusical abilities after listening to music, background music- nonmusical abilities while listening to music. Effect of tempo and mode: stimuli- midi versions of the mozart sonata that varied only in tempo and mode, fast-major. Fast-minor, slow-major, slow-minor: participants heard one version and completed the pf&c test, also measured arousal, mood, and enjoyment. Adults and non-spatial abilities: tests- processing speed and working memory, music- mozart or albinoni, arousal and mood were measured before and after the music listening. Processing speed: symbol search subtest from the wechsler adult intelligence scale (wais) Children"s playsong effect: music- listening (cid:523)mozart, albinoni, familiar chilren"s songs(cid:524) or singing (cid:523)familiar songs(cid:524, each child made a baseline drawing and a music drawing, measured drawing time and quality. In a restaurant, people order food that matches the ethnicity (indian vs. malay) of the background music.
