Week 11 SIKH HISTORY, DEVOTIONALIST MOVEMENTS, AND THEGOD-
MEN
In the past, boundaries werent fixed so can be a Sikh and a non-Sikh at the same
time. At first Sikhs did not try to identify themselves differently. Sikh boundary was
defined in a moment, not a long time. Kabirs poetry is in Sikh text but Kabir did
not belong to any religion. His name is Muslim and he is revered by Hindus and
Muslims.
Sikhism primarily originated in 15th century Punjab region of India.

Ram is a Hindu god where his birthplace has a Hindu-Muslim conflict.
3 different stories of Kabirs origin:
1.Kabir was born into weaver family.
2.Kabirs mother is a Brahmin (Hindu) but he was raised as a Muslim.
3.Kabir was born through a miracle on a lotus.
4.Kabir is the reincarnation of Visnu.
Ram is the word which Kabir used to talk about God.
