What is sociology: the systematic study of human behaviour in a social context, it informs about the development of social structures, behaviour and cultures, it dispels myths, the study of social problems. The idea that society is grouped into structurally related groups or roles with different functions, meanings and purposes based on their interaction. They both emerge from and a determine the actions of individuals. You have always had teachers, you must interact with them and this interaction has rules and it is a reoccurring pattern. Family, religion, social class, law, culture, gender, organizations. Micro, macro and global structures: micro social relationships formed by face to face interaction, macro - over reaching patterns ex. Classes and systems: global relations among countries, patterns of communication and travel. *influence of social structure broadens our understanding of problems and suggests appropriate courses of action.
