Culture examples: high culture, consumed mainly by upper classes, things that are consumed by the upper classes have higher status. Opera, polo, collecting art etc: popular culture or mass culture, consumed by all classes. People who think and know a lot about food. French cuisine (which was elite class): foodies don"t have any obsession with french cuisine, but are searching for an authentic and exotic experience. Exotic: something that they normally don"t eat. Eating head to tail (everything) also called offal: given status and distinction via food. They have the knowledge and resources to try an vast array of cuisines. They have transformed working class food from popular culture to high culture. Food goes beyond just eating, it can signify your knowledge and status to others. Advertises draw on different ideas that exist in our culture, like stereotypes.
