Female & male, homosexual & heterosexual, etc. How we perceive our identity as male, female, both or neither, regardless of our sex. Social construction of gender: sociological perspective gender is a social construct and emerges as a product of society, being a product of time and space, examples: Early 1900s, used to be an all-male activity. Was equivalent in prestige to football which is still a male activity- ranked second to being a quarterback. Women were excluded deemed to be too masculine an activity. Changes happened during wwii when men went away, presence of women became more cemented and men never returned to the sport. Idea of cheerleading changed totally when women became involved more cheers are preppy and girly. Now more sexualized known to sexualize women and revealing uniforms.
