Race - a social construct used to distinguish people in terms of one or more physical markers, usually with profound effects on their lives. Social construct : an idea or concept that has emerged from society. Physical markers produce idea that people are different (affects lives, access to things, outcomes in life) Categories put on people change all the time. Cultural marker (ethnicity) ; race (physical marker) Race does not equal to genetic difference. Sociologists, historians, biologists and genetics : race is a social construct. There is no biological component to what we think of as race. Looked at pigmentation of color of different ppl. Results were ambiguity as people have many different pigmentations.
