The idea we categorize racial groups is a social context: your racial group can differ from one person to another. Physical markers don"t matter unless they"re given social meaning: they don"t matter unless we call them different, we give meaning to those with physical markers and that creates race, examples, government policy: The head tax was only 80 years ago. They used power to maintain that power of privilege to maintain inequality between british and indigenous people: micro level implications. Landlords discriminate based on names: experiment shows racial discrimination based on names. People think that race means skin color: we all are raced individuals, we ignore that whiteness can have profound effects on opportunities better privilege. If we assume that race is non-white we ignore that white is a racial group.
