Research methods: we use research methods to, generate new ideas + concepts, update our knowledge about soc + crime, research diff groups and areas using specific methods. Survey: widely used method, quantitative method, questionnaires are a sub category, ask about knowledge, attitudes, behaviours, can be open/close ended, association between x & y, + ask all kinds of things (very powerful) Quality of data hinges on how you ask the question. Analysis of existing data: someone else has collected it, statistics canada, including census data, look for association b/w x & y, + accessing representative sample.
