Most theorists attempting to explain social world by identifying most important thing about the nature of social life ex. Humans don"t live in that natural world. We create our own world (made by humans for humans) Everything we do revolves around work (bottom line: material survival) Since work is so important for just surviving in the world its like our spirit/soul comes out in the way we work (only if we r free to do what we want to do) This is not the case if our work is controlled by someone else. Marx thought work should be something that you dearly love to do a lot (like a hobby) If someone else controls your work its the worst kind of theft imaginable (especially if your being exploited) Robbing not just your work but the human spirit. Engles argued that family is when private property comes first. Marx says concept of private property was first.
