Sociology: the systematic study of human behavior in social context. suggests a relationship between the society and the individual. Sociological imagination: the ability to think beyond the individual, to the broader social context. The ability to see the individual within the context of society. Micro level: stable enduring patterns we see in face to face interactions, eg family, friends, romance. Macro level: things like social class, patriarchy, religious ideologies. Global level: as our world becomes more globalized, our individual lives are shaped by what is happening on a global scale. Affects you on a personal level, obviously but it goes beyond that. For example, unemployment rates in your city may suggest something about your city. Look at the demographics of the unemployed population. Move beyond your personal trouble, look at other factors and see how it could be considered a public issue. Durkheim said that there is a relation between suicide and groups and institutions of people.
