Clash between roles, - role restraint or role conflict eg. as a child, i should being should be doing this but as a student i should be doing otherwise. Deviant is another type of social role. The deviant role tends to be labeled as deviant- can be understood as any other social role. Being a back robber, shoplifter, - obtains different interaction, activities but still a role. No one is deviant all the time. No one can take on only deviant social roles. Most deviant people- they take on perfectly non-deviant social roles as well. Youth try different deviant roles- drifting in and out- they also have perfectly non - deviant social roles. Deviant roles- difference, can exert very powerful effects on individuals. Especially when the deviant role becomes the master role- he/she organizes other roles around it, eg. gang member. When a deviant role becomes master role- people recognize it stigmatized.
