Document Summary

The world around us is physical & social. Physical world has laws that preserve order (ex. gravity); these laws are repetitive (ex. throw ball in air 6 times it will always come back) Science is one way of organizing & understanding the world (we can also use things like observation, religion etc. ) Systematic observation scientists follow a method to test and collect data; results must be valid, reliable & testable. Science is secular, not sacred doesn"t believe in supernatural forces; it doesn"t reject religion, but remains silent on the issue, as religion is not testable. Universe: inherent order job of science is to find out more about this order. Origins: unknown origins of order are unknown in science. Ex) dropping chalk & it goes upward scientific statement; can be tested, even though it"s wrong vs. people go to heaven or hell after death not scientific; cant be tested.
