Vagrancy laws: homeless people law, not just there for living
on strret? Must have a purpose, mno soliciting
Excerpt:
Chambliss cont’d
During black deat, lots of people were dying
Changes over time
By 1547, the law states pretty much that the fact that youre
unemployed is criminal but being vagfrant is criminal, so then
you will be ironed and marked as a slave if they catch you for
2 years
Capital avoids law
Capital dictates law but it also avoids law
English factory acts looks like they are protecting workers, this
is when machine technology starts, the birth of
industrialization and people working in factories.
In 1847 they passed a new act, reduced hours then in 1848
they reduced hours again
Industries fought back but even though they did, the law still
passed.
It seems like capitalism lost, so marx looked at the law in
actiomL
oFirst of all, they only reduced hours for youth and
women. Not for men.
oThe capitalist subverded and avoided the regulation
oWho is making sure that the laws are being obeyed?
The factories created a relay system, the kids
would move building, the owners subverted the
regulation, menaing that even if someobody came
to check up on factories, they wouldn’t be able to
keep track how many hours women and children
are workiny
