There"s always a stability and evenness it"s harmonious. Even though people are different, they re held together through consensus of values. He did say there are moment of conflict. Law is seen as a structure that maintains harmony. Conflict: always conflict i society because there is inequality everywhere. They are held together by coercion (law is a tool of coercion) not consensus. Law is a tool of oppression used as a tool by the ruling class to oppress the lower class. Collective conscience all the values, norms shared by society. Analogy: human body - lots of different moving parts. They work differently and have different functions but they work together to create a whole greater than the sum of its parts. Every phenome that exists on society is there to serve a purpose/function. Ex. murder: murder exists because it functions to create a social cohesion because majority people agree murder is wrong.
