Medical dominance is the freedom of allopathic (regular/modern) doctors from control by other occupations/groups and ability to control other occupations working in healthcare. Society is a harmonious system consisting of interdependent functioning parts that become more complex as societies themselves become more developed (durkheim) Disease is a threat to the system prevents individuals from performing role/function. The sick role: permission to step aside but only for a time. Because of their professional knowledge/skills: the physician has the power to determine the legitimacy of the sick"s claim.
