-conducting research in prisons is challenging, especially when it comes to negotiating access,
denial of access is common
-csc conducts research on its prisoner populations and correctional programming, and formerly
had a dedicated addictions research centre located in Prince Edward Island
-access restrictions raise questions about the integrity of correctional scholarship over time,
accountability and transparency, reputational risk, the policing of access to carceral populations
Drugs and Prisons
-the war on drugs= mass increases in incarceration in the United States, less so but still
significant in Canada
-crime need to be punish, drug dealer need to be put away, high politicians need to be strong
on crime or other wise they will out of a job
