Document Summary

We must eat and consume food which is natural but may aspects are not so natural. But they appear to us as unavoidable or natural. Consumerism is the air we breathe and omnipresent. Our lives are surrounded by this act of consuming. Consumerism is ingrained within us and we experience consumer society as something natural but it"s not. It"s very unconscious and often time we don"t realize this. We are trying to denaturalize this consumer society and see within i to understand how it is created by institutions and larger societal structures. Consumer society didn"t always exist this way. Primacy of production over consumption so there was more emphasis on production than consumption which was a consequence of the latter to the point where it took over production. System of meaning objects don"t always have to have the same use or meaning. They can be used as signs or symbols to mean other things.
