Unlike the case in children, where their work has increased over time, song writers work has been devalued. Like models, song writers work in an artistic industry (like the models- status and prestige matters) Type of devaluation is tied to their economic and symbolic capital. 3 main reasons for devaluation: change in technology- transition to track based songs therefore producers supply the base and track of the song upon where the lyrics get built on. Pro tools/ logic (software) has become more important like formal instruments like piano and guitar. Bc of the transition, producers play a more prominent role; in soliciting and writing of songs. The singers that prodcuce the music for the track that is already made are called top : performing artists vying for royalties. The singers earn less because producers are a big part now: changes in the consumption music cause we download/stream music/radio. Artists don"t get the profit from the cd albums that they make.
