Some view it as some women choose to be sexy, some say it was sexist. It can be seen as gendered and sexist because we cannot imagine a man doing that ad. This is related to inequality between men and women. Definition: a preconceived, standardized, and oversimplified impression of the characteristics which typify a person, situation, etc. - we are interested in people rather than situations. Stereotypes often are based on existing widespread cultural beliefs and ideas, but they can also be distorted when used to facilitate mass communication. Started to take off at time of civil rights movement in 70s and womens movement, during this period there was growing awareness of social inequality along race class and gender. The media can play a role in reproducing and stabilizing the social inequalities. They often have a negative quality to them.
