Athenians discussed things that affected them as a community. Hence, development of philosophy due to debating of ideas. Athenian democracy is a direct democracy in which issues are presented in the public square and voted on by lot by those who can vote. Approx 20% of athenians can vote (men who underwent military training) Majority of voting males were familiar with the inner workings of political power. Realized they are only responsible to themselves for the laws they create. Greeks are no longer satisfied with supernatural explanation for things around them. Forces citizens to take a position on policy issues with weighty matters.
