WGS101H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Equal Rights Amendment, Susan Griffin, Reproductive Rights
Document Summary
Women also experience violence aimed at their reproductive choices and sexuality when denied access to abortion rights cuz of federal subsidies for abortion have been withdrawn and since the clinics are becoming targets of terrorist bombings. Poor and coloured women are usually the targets of sterilization abuse. Reproductive rights involve more than access to abortions and safe birth control methods, they also hold within the rights for lesbians to reproduce outside of the confines of heterosexual relationships. The rape epidemic that says one of three women are to be raped at one point of their life reflects on the worsening ec and social status of women today. This violence against women is related to domestic racial vilence and global imperialist aggression. Anti-rape movement started in early 1970s after the emergence of the women"s liberation movement, it proved to be the most dramatic activist mass movement associated with the fight for women"s freedom.
