Study of people"s cultures and other societies. Developed in the early 19 century and developed into its new form into the 20th century where sociologies joined. Anthropologies generally carry out this research in non-western societies and settings. Qualitative data collection: approach that examines the what, how, and why of social life. Engaging with a social context collecting data recounting descriptive data a relational experience. Definition: insider/outsider position: ethnographic research consists of trying to understand a culture from the insider"s perspective. Question: what is an insider"s perspective. Interactional: relational experience, goes both ways, a mutual interaction of you the researcher and the participants. In the process the researchers begin to comprehend the group"s underlying beliefs, narratives, all from the insider"s point of views: there is a dilemma. Collaborative: without collaboration, you cannot get the results, if they don"t accept you they may start lying to you. Need to understand what assumptions they carry with ourselves.
