Katherine mcclintock: intervenes strategically in historical narratives of race and fetishism, domesticity and desire to show how erotic pleasures are constituted along the axes of race, class, gender and desire. She begins with the story of cullwick and munby through an examination of cullwick"s diaries. For cullwick this was a space of empowerment & pleasure, but for munby (which are considered as victims) Institutional discourse that say women who are prostitutes because they have major issues, it couldn"t be because women seek work as a site of pleasure. She asserts that both cullwick and munby engaged in s/m even before it had entered discourse. She argued that both their diaries reveal, though differently a variety of of fetish rituals: slave/master s/m, bondage/discipline, hand, foot and boot fetishisms, washing rituals, infantilism, cross-dressing and a fascination with dirt.
