Document Summary

Struggles over nature are therefore struggles over meaning: what is the difference between nature and culture (picture of houseplant, natural, living organism, requires environmental input: sun, water, nutrients from soil, grows, self-reliant, goes through a life cycle. Meaning of nature and natural" has been altered. Human beings are believed to be corrupted beings, on the other hand we are anxious beings (idea of climate change, pollution) Nature and humanity are reflections of each other. Dualism that sets humanity and nature at opposite poles. But, what we say about nature tells us as much about ourselves than it does about nature. By changing this question, different positions and morals are placed. Descriptions of nature = descriptions of people: if jungle is barbaric, the same can be said about people living within the environment as cannibals, and savages. People living in nature = primitive and need to be modernized.
